I've used linphone and jitsi in the past, with success.

linphone is not in the repos.  Is Jitsu available to connect with POTS?

I am really struggling with linphone.  After decades it doesn't feel like this program is ready for regular use.  The volume control is not indepenedent, and it fails to dial out correctly.  If I wanted to be offensive I would say something about French Software..

Does your voip provider offer a softphone via web browser? Many do offer that as an alternative.

So you can use it for an established phone company offering VOIP through SIPS?

That's what I understood from the jami blog post itself, though I can't confirm it my self (having my jami account instead).
