hidepid without systemd

I saw this section on Arch Wiki about using the proc group to hide other users' processes from each other. It also mentions needing to edit a systemd config file in order for user logins to work correctly with systemd. I was wondering if this was also relevant for other init systems and process managers/if there's anything non-systemd people need to do to make sure user logins work correctly with this enabled. I'm using runit btw
