new install; startplasma-wayland doesn't work

Hi,

I've done an install of arch linux which was successful and then ran up an artix vm in vmware workstation. I've installed wayland and kde-meta and kde-applications and the basics and then when I reboot, I can log into the console ok although if I go to enter the command "startplasma-wayland" I get the error in the image attached. I'm able to successfully start KDE on my Arch Linux installation this way, although not in artix on my vm. Is there a reason why? I'd like to avoid using x if possible. Running dbus-run-session startplasma-wayland results in the second error picture; it freezes there and doesn't go into KDE.

Any ideas on what's behind it and how to resolve it? This didn't help either (similar issue)
