Unable to login after extended time away. runit - kde plasma - wayland and x11

Hello all.

I have been trying to get artix with the runit init system with plasma to run stably.  For some reason when the laptop is left for an extended period of time I am no longer able to login.  When i enter the password, it reports that the password is incorrect, and if i can get to tty(sometimes it wont change to tty) the tty login screen also reports the password is incorrect.  so I have to force the machine off.

In some cases, the fans on the machine are working hard, which suggests there is some serious CPU/GPU activity going on, yet on plasma x11 that doesn't happen

I am looking for suggestions on what logs to check to see what is going on, keeping in mind i have to force the machine off at the moment.

Create a second account, enable sshd and use ssh to access the laptop when locked out, top(1) or nvtop(1) will show you what's hogging the machine and perhaps dmesg(1) what's going wrong.
