Internet not working - Troubleshooting

A few weeks ago I powered off my computer while a VPN and Torrent client was running by mistake, not knowing how much pain this would cause me. I am no longer able to connect to the internet whatsoever, despite all network interfaces being detected and running. I downgraded all packages to check to see if this would fix the issue, though it failed.  Checking status in iplink shows everything is up. Cleared the cache. Is there anything i can do other than reinstall my root partition?

Start with checking the output of: route
Is the gateway correct? If so, can you ping it?
Perform tests and provide the results.

You might check /etc/resolv.conf too, although it would usually be automatically overwritten by dhcp clients, if you are using manual connections, perhaps it could have an old entry left in there.
