MATE and cinnamon slowing down after changing screen resolution

I installed artix linux recently with the mate iso . After installation i went into the mate gui displays menu . I wanted to change my screen resolution to 720p because i have such a monitor . After that it became very slow . Like it started taking 2-3 seconds to type a single letter in the terminal for example . Changing to another resolution didnt fix it . only changing to 1080p again and restarting lightdm fixed it . I also tried installing cinnamon but same problem there . I checked my gpu drivers and i think they are ok (i use nouveau drivers for nvidia gt730) . I also installed xfce4 and i didnt have the problem there . (both in xfce4 x11 and wayland it works fine) . I wanna use mate with my monitor . does anybody know how to fix this ?
