Not very familiar with the internals of sfdisk, perhaps the '--append' argument fails exactly because of that? I may become guilty of lost data here, but what if you moved sda3 right next to sda5 and Artix sda2 gets created in order? It's a relatively easy and (mostly) safe procedure to do with any partition manager like gparted.Take a backup first.
