KDE wayland flicker with VRR

I installed artix with kde recently and it comes with wayland by default. If i have VRR enabled or set to "auto" on a monitor it starts flickering (brightness changes rapidly) whenever the VRR is active. This was not a problem when I was using dwm with x11 before the reinstall. I looked on several forums, this seem to be exclusive to Kwin and KDE devs show no interest in fixing it. I'm on amd graphics if it matters, with the default drivers (radeon 6600)
