Next NYC Artix meeting - Thursday May 15th

Next Artix NYC get together

On Thursday, May 15th, 2015.  I want to start a package management study group with a goal to adding more packagers to the Artix development group.

I think we will meet at 7:30PM at the Lobby of the Brooklyn Marriott Hotel on Adams Street in Downtown Brooklyn.  It is a short jump from lower Manhattan with access from the 2,3,4,5,N,and R trains at the Boro Hall station.  The A,C,F from the Jay Street Station.  The D and Q from the Dekalb station... and maybe more..

Locally sourced food and wine in casual dining. Dinner near the Brooklyn Bridge is available daily from 4:30 pm to 10:45 pm. The bar is open until midnight Sunday to Thursday and until 1am Friday and Saturday.

Here is some basic homework for tomorrows meeting.  I am hoping we can make a windowmaker package as a first attempt to understand how pacman works.  I'll have my laptop, but it never hurts to bring your.  I actually need to convert that laptop to artix, being an older Lenovo thinkpad.

Just a note - we had a few more folks come for drinks and discussion (pacman packaging ) this week and it was enjoyable... although I need to find a better venue.  While it was quiet, the post-covid hotel lobby is not as accommodating as it once was for computer meetings.  Still it was productive and we will start a workshop on pacman which I hope to supplement with some one line resources.

The tutorials I am reading are all from Arch.  I am wondering if we have artix specific content.  Otherwise I will need to write it.

I will aim for the next meeting in 2 weeks and open to suggestions for a local.  I am thinking maybe in the dining area of Grand Central Station, which might me a decent compromise if we can secure some internet access.

I am think of starting up meetings this week if I can find a local to hack at in the evenings.  I am open to suggestions?  The hotel lobby we used to use has considerably changed post-covid and not as easy to use.  The Killarny Rose is available, but it is noisey as hell.
