backlight issue - brightness vals out of sync

installed artix on my laptop (lenovo legion pro) just this week and i can't seem to change the backlight brightness. same issue on linux mint, so i don't think its arch-specific, but i poked around a lot in the system files:
- changed grub config to basically every conceivable option re: backlight
- manually edited brightness params in the backlight class --> interestingly, changing the values in either acpi or amdgpu don't have any sort of outcome on the actual screen brightness but using brightness controls (f5, f6) change the values in acpi but NOT amdgpu

i've looked around the web for any possible solution but unsurprisingly most of them rely on systemd or debian. any help is appreciated.

Check the BIOS menu if you haven't already, press F10 or whatever at boot. My laptops have settings in there like automatic light sensor (ALS) that can do unexpected things when enabled, and you can set the screen brightness on battery or mains, and they have function keys to alter the brightness. Whether that has any relation to your problem though I don't know.

no luck there. i've switched between discrete & switchable lighting but the only thing it does is make my display look like crap.

tried installing redshift & running it, but (at least right now) it takes fucking forever to do anything. maybe i'm not running it right? who knows.

the issue might be that i have an oled screen. ugh.

okay, after more messing w/ redshift i've gotten it to work. next time i should probably set up a conf file before displaying my lack of forethought on a public forum... thanks for the help, though. it definitely works for now though i'd like to be able to manually adjust my brightness via hotkey in the future.
