Xfce shows black screen with tiny rectangle of desktop in upper left

Root account environment works fine. User account is black except for upper left small rectangle and my cursor. I use Xfce and I don't have any experience in Linux troubleshooting. I tried Changing the resolution to native typing blindly into the terminal. Didn't work.

The common denominator of this issue stems from when I shutdown while in a lower non native resolution.

Any help is appreciated.
