[SOLVED] Artix Kernel 5.12 is total disaster

When I try 5.12 laptop is freezing after some time (max. 30 mins sometimes, more other times).
With 5.11 hardened kernel all seems ok but no virtualization modules.
What is the solution?

Ok. I dont need an answer anyway but do something to avoid such things because you lose users. If you push an untested enough artix variant of kernel (look other forums to see how problematic is 5.12 kernel) which freezes completely pcs thats the wrong way.

ps: and I dont have the fucking nvidia card.

Artix works perfectly, with latest updates, on my 11 year old laptop, also on my 9 year old desktop. If you want to find out what's wrong with your setup, you need to post more info (logs, specs...). If you don't, why post?

Artix is not a multi-billion dollar corporation deeply interested in "losing customers", it's a project supported by enthusiasts.

If you have any logs, great!  And now describe your problem as accurately as possible. Sentences like "I installed it and it doesn't work" is grammatically correct, but it won't tell us anything. What's wrong? What you do? How?  What does it, that you think,  it doesn't work?

My problem is your problem. You pushed a kernel that is ruining my SSD constantly along with my VMs and homeserver...

I have also a Dell Latitude E 4300 that worked wonderful until 5.12, and works marvelous with 5.11 hardened. What is my problem?

It sounds like you were bit by some kernel regression which is quite unfortunate, but there's not really anything we can do given that we don't develop it. We just ship releases from upstream (kernel.org). The mainline branch is 5.12 and the last stable release was 5.12.2. If the new kernel is bad for your machine, you can use linux-lts in the meantime. Don't forget to regenerate your grub config if you do switch kernels.

I know. I'll investigate if the problem is from virtualbox.
Found something similar here.

Hello,
I had hard freezes in the kernel 5.12.1 btfs driver.
I had to downgrade back to kernel 5.11.16 to get my system back to a usable state.
The iwlwifi is unstable since several kernel releases.
These regressions are not just annoying they cost you user and reputation.
Only experienced user can workaround them.
Does the Artix Installer default to linux-lts ? And state clear that regressions will happen with non LTS Kernels and you need to be an experienced user to workaround them ?

Artix Linux, like Arch Linux (Artix is fundamentally Arch w/o systemd), does not pretend to be oriented toward users w/o some understanding of linux. That's not to suggest that inexperienced users are shunned from using Artix, but that they should have an attitude that allows them to learn and become a more experienced user. There are distributions of linux that are targeted toward inexperienced users, or users who have no desire to increase their understanding  of all things linux. Artix and Arch are not distributions that fit the latter category.

Best regards.
We should try to be kind to everyone.....we are all fighting some sort of battle.

New kernels bring new features, but can bring some problems or regressions. It is a tax for development and new funtions and newly supported HW. Artix's devs are not creators  of kernel.

That you can see in https://bugs.archlinux.org/index.php?string=linux too.

If you do not find a report corresponding to your error, you can use https://bugzilla.kernel.org/. But you count on that - just like here - no crying does not help, if you are unable to prove a single log.

...it is possible that your problem has been fixed in the current 5.12.2 or will fix in the next 5.12.x - if somebody reported it.

You're not alone. I also encountered some issues in both Artix & Arch installs after upgraded to 5.12.x. Currently running LTS and plan to stay with LTS for some time. I can not say it's normal, but that's part of running a rolling release distro like Arch & Artix.

It's not Arch or Artix's fault. If you really want to blame somebody, blame kernel.org. Can not bash UMN for every problem.  ;)

It appears the freeze in 5.12 is related to virtualbox extension pack. I removed it and all seems ok untill now.

I had a similar (maybe the same) issue in KVM guests, and switching the Video Model from QXL to Virtio fixed (prevents) the issue.
Maybe a similar change in Virtualbox also works.

No. It is not solved the problem with system freeze. Even without extension packs installed, Virtualbox freezes my laptop with a VM turned on. With no VMs turned on, the system has problems, suddenly high CPU usage and after I close Librewolf when I want to reboot it complains about Librewolf still running and system hangs on reboot with power button intervention for reboot/shutdown. I'll use 5.11 hardened for a day to see the problems still persist.

I updated to 5.12.2, untill now no freezes but the problem with Librewolf still persists. Sometimes the browser window becomes unresponsive, when I force quit librewolf, remains a zombie process and I cannot restart browser. Zombie resist any command to escape it. Due to this I encounter reboot hangs and I must push the power button.
