Issues with System Performance After Installing Artix Linux - Need Advice 18 December 2024, 10:52:10 Hi everyone,I recently made the switch to Artix Linux and so far, I’ve been really impressed with the distribution. However, I’m encountering some system performance issues that I need help with. After installing Artix on my laptop, which has the following specifications:Processor: Intel i5 8th genRAM: 8GBStorage: 512GB SSDGraphics: Intel UHD 620 integrated graphicsThe installation went smoothly, and I opted for the OpenRC init system as I read it’s lighter and more flexible than others. The system runs well most of the time, but I’ve noticed sporadic slowdowns, especially when running multiple applications like a browser, terminal, and a file manager simultaneously. Sometimes, the system will freeze for a few seconds, and then resume functioning normally.I’ve tried optimizing a few things by disabling unnecessary services through rc-update and ensuring that I don’t have too many background processes running, but the issue persists. I’ve also checked the system logs, but nothing stands out as an obvious cause.Has anyone here experienced similar issues with system performance on Artix, particularly with OpenRC? Are there any settings, tweaks, or diagnostic tools I should use to help pinpoint the cause of these slowdowns? I’m particularly interested in learning if there are any adjustments specific to Artix that could improve performance or if the problem might lie with hardware compatibility or the init system I’m using.Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!power apps

Until then i would have to guess that theres no swap file or swap partition in use as you havent listed any so it might be a good idea to add some and see how that goes (2 gig swap file might e plenty and easy to add). Indeed if you hard drive has an issue that could be a cause then a swap file on a bad drive would certainly exacerbate your problem. It also might be that you have issue with your ram so you could run some error checking on your ram. It might also be the case that you might need to repaste your cpu cooler as your cpu could be throttling if the thermal paste is dry and ineffective. These are just some of the more common hardware issues. Also you could have an issue with the powersupply/battery could cause that issue also if it's not getting consistent voltage. Might be interesting to try running on battery then switching to the power supply and see if there's a performance difference.
Re: Issues with System Performance After Installing Artix Linux - Need Advice Reply #3 – 18 December 2024, 14:20:48 Perhaps try booting an older iso, if there is currently a hardware specific bug affecting your system you can potentially downgrade using the Artix package archive. The kernel and graphics drivers are the most common causes of this type of symptom. You could also try a different desktop environment or web browser, switch between Mozilla based vs Chromium based - not permanently, just to try and narrow down the cause, then try older versions, and / or newer as relevant. 1 Likes
Re: Issues with System Performance After Installing Artix Linux - Need Advice Reply #4 – 18 December 2024, 20:38:48 The first thing that comes to my mind would be the GPU hanging and recovering (used to have that sometimes on another distro).Try checking (and eventually posting) the output of "dmesg" (executed from root) just after one of those freezes happens.Checking logs in /var/log/* may be a good idea too. From there we can diagnose the issues and eventually get to the slowdowns.
