X11 is totally hosed on the last update

I've lost X11 altogether.  The gdm repalcement comes up but there is no response to stdio from the keyboard or the mouse.  I thought it was my logictech wireless, but standard usb keyboard and mouse also fails to work.  I can't even get any into out of it.  I tried older kernels, and that didn't work.  I did a ctl c before x start and I have acommand line, but startx fails.

It is a bricked box for all practicle purposes right now.  I'm trying not to grumble but this hasn't happened in since the mid-1990's

I sent a follow up email with the /var/log/X.0.log to the mailing list

Have you tried a temporary replacement display manager like SDDM?  I try to stay as Gnome free as possible so I don't have direct experience with GDM anymore so I can't answer directly for it's behavior.  At least you'd be able to rule out GDM as the culprit.
OS: Artix x86_64

If you have tty, it's not right to call it a bricked box. There's just no working graphics.

It sounds like something is wrong with the intel driver. I did find this interesting piece of information in the Arch Wiki (which I was not previously aware of). Apparently some distros recommend not using the xf86-video-intel driver for later intel cards.

Quote
Some (Debian & Ubuntu, Fedora, KDE) recommend not installing the xf86-video-intel driver, and instead falling back on the modesetting driver for fourth generation and newer GPUs.

I don't know if that's relevant to you, but maybe you should look into it. Alternatively, you could also attempt to try some Wayland window managers and see if you can get a working display out of those.

there is no access to the tty once X starts up

I tried xdm with no luck - same behavior.  I think it is related to a problem in libinput.10.13

I'll post the X log in a second.  I have to scp it around my network

that is from starting xdm and xinit on the command line

there is no access to the tty once X starts up
Well yeah don't start X on boot until you fix this. A bricked machine is one that is completely nonfunctional.

Have you tried downgrading libinput from 1.11.1-2 to 1.11.0 yet?

can't find it with pacman - currently it is 10.13 on the file system

there is libinput.1.11.1-2 and libinput 0.27.1-1 for X.org that are both installed

Yeah those are the latest versions. If you want, you could try downgrading to 1.10.13 since you don't have 1.11.0 in your package cache. Also there's a handy AUR package, downgrade, that you could use to fetch old versions from remote repositories.

It's failing on a wacom driver it looks like.  Are you even using a wacom tablet?

Code: [Select]
[   982.727] (EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/libinput_drv.so: /usr/lib/libinput.so.10: undefined symbol: libwacom_get_button_evdev_code

I'm on libinput 1.11.1-2 but I don't have a wacom tablet attached and I'm also not receiving an error.  My son has a wacom and I can try attaching it to my laptop when I get home to see if it does the same thing.
OS: Artix x86_64

yeah - I do but it is not connected at the moment.  It is not just the watcom, it seems to be having trouble with them all.

this is the weird thing

on the hard drive:

libinput.so.10 -> libinput.so.10.13.0

regardless of what packman says, there is no libinoput.so.11 and I redownloaded twice
