Not bad, but I'd go for a Ryzen over a Core CPU any single day; I see lots of 'fanless industrial mini-PCs'  with Ryzen too.

^Yes, you may never know which batch of the faulty Core lineup exactly you're gonna get. The problem with Ryzen platform tho is that it is kind of hard to get this kind of custom embedded/low power stuff. Also like, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, why is that CPU over 600$ (DOLLARS)? It's freaking ancient by today's standards.

do you think it could handly the compiling needed  for artix builds?

Such systems are not intended for ordinary mouse pushers.

Once set up and properly maintained, such systems run for decades without any problems, so the ‘outdated, overpriced CPU’ is a bargain.
This is where the real advantage of opensource comes to the fore.

True. I don't know that the intended usecase, but I still believe this as 4 core CPU for this kind of price and as I said, considering intel drama with all of those faulty cpus doesn't make this any more trustworthy...

Any particular reason you need a thin embedded client of this class? As for the question, if you need to compile anything on such a weak CPU (Multicore wise), then I'd look for something with more juice...

they are virtually  indestructible, are low power and save lots of money and last  longer because they don't depend on a fan.  It is not unusual for me to leave a server up and running for 15 years.

"save lots of money"

can someone show me the math on that? 600$ is a lot of KW

. Also standard is Internal TPM 2.0 and a 12V/60W power supply unit (PSU).

what do you mean?

As noted in other threads, used g5's can be set to pull 35w max, are far more powerful, expandable, fixable, and can be expected to perform at least as long, right? at less than 150 for a full system.

But they have a larger footprint i guess?

Fixable it great.  Indestructible is what I prefer.  I didn't mean to enter someone elses previous flame war.  I  was just looking for hardware to install for the Artix compiling that is not a full tower that sucks up 300 watts.  I am not getting a mac... I am bias and bigoted against Macs.

IME nothing does not break, so i like fixable.
I didn't mean to enter someone elses previous flame war.
Nor did I. I was interested in your points.

Me too.

I apologize for being unclear. I was referring to the EliteDesk Ryzen mini PC's that take less than 100w.
nous had recommended them as building beasts, and they are cheap.

Here is a random example from amazon https://www.amazon.com/s?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=EliteDesk+705+G5

I am looking to get 64GB of ram and about 8 TB of storage.  I really want to buy this once, and never have to worry about it again.  I haven't been feeling well and I want it to be idiot proof by the NYLXS people if something happens to me, and for it to be installed and useful for 15 years.

train a replacement.

I feel sad at the news of your not feeling well.

64gb and 8T is kinda a beast.

@cat herders of linux had a few of these machines she got in a lot and needed to sell, but I have not seen them for a bit.
